Toystory, there is a good reason you don't feel the pain of a problem because there is no huge problem.

Sockets unless cheap and useless are not designed to be smashed with a hammer. I've got one socket in my tool chest that is for this purpose. Just don't destroy something that is in good condition. I always use the 1 dollar orange screwdrivers at harbor freight for most knocking out of bearings (we also have a specially welded bolt which is 16" long for knocking out bearings on drive wheels that have been spaced.)
