It really irks me to see stuff like that. Guys like that give guys like me a bad name. we use a lot of cheats & shortcuts in the trade but, there's a big difference between doing the job, being bodgie & just straight out not knowing what you're doing.

I wouldn't have reassembled it. It's still wrecked, just not quite as bad. After $2100 in parts?!?!?
I can see the guys at the body shop now. 2 guys sitting in this gator. Both holding a beer. One guys wife wrapping a chain around a tree and hooking it to the frame, then WOT in reverse until it's "good enough". I hope you didn't return this machine to a customer in this condition. That repair(or lack there of) is absolutely unacceptable.
You do what you want but you'd never see anything like that come out of my garage. I'm not even a shop, just a shade tree mechanic, but I wouldnt feel right about taking someones money for that caliber of work.

That junk is also dangerous. What happens when your customer gets that death trap up to speed? I bet she handles sweet! A previous poster said it right. I'd be waiting for the lawsuit. Someones going to hurt themselves with that trash. From the rest of what I'm seeing I'd guess the frame repair isn't solid either. When you send your customer home for a full speed wreck know his legs may be severely injured because of the faulty equipment YOU turned him loose in.

It's still sitting in my barn. Getting the engine back together tomorrow when the guy brings me the new main bearings. I will make him sign a waiver that he must take it back to the body shop and that it is out of my hands.

The real reason the gator knocked. Number 3 cylinder's rod and piston. No valve or head damage. It must have hydrolocked when running upside down.
The customer took the new crank and bearings back, ordered the new rod, piston, and head gasket, and still has a positive credit coming from deere.

It can only be so close to "perfect". Hell the fact that it was refurbished by this guy even if it was "perfect" would give them right to lawsuit him if they get injured. so either way he can still be the one blamed.

I didn't refurbish it, I just rebuilt the engine and slapped new body parts on it. The frame shop is the responsible party for the actual beast.. And it didn't run when the body shop had it... Many wires were disconnected. Just a crappy job.

This is just a ****ty deal. I understand where your at but can you blame the guy. I bet he paid quite a bit for that gator even wrecked. I bet the guys biting the dust on over 5 grand. That'd leave a bad taste in my mouth to. What is the body shop saying about this? I hope I never have a run in with these clowns.

I have. How about a new 6.6 inline turbo diesel (Ford, 300 HP.) because one of your coworkers decided to drive around the police barricade and thru 4~5 ft. of water to try to deliver a load to a customer that was already CLOSED because of said water?
The new engine was because after this genius was done, the only things salvageable were the turbo and the injection pump. Ford requires that all engine cores be intact, and that you can roll them over with nothing more than a breaker bar.
Approx. $17,000 for a new engine, for a 28,000 lb capacity stake truck that the shop bought 3 WEEKS earlier for only $8,500 (the rest of the rig was primo; the only reason the ins. screamed, but paid).
The part that blew me away was that this Darwin candidate not only still had a job, they let him keep his Tool and Die apprenticeship!!!
