That bike is so creatively designed...I just love it! I would not sale it, since it is so unique the person or kid you sale it to would not value it as much. You could probably enter it in a car show or take it to one. Stuff like that draws a lot of attention. You would be surprised.

One question, do they sale the engine tranny together, or is there a place you can get it?

Here's the ebay link again http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=250606130844

It fits on a Chinese 49cc 2 stroke. You just remove the clutch cover that comes with the engine and bolt the CVT in its place.

It has an 18 tooth output sprocket for 8mm chain, so you'll have to make sure that whatever you put it on is set up for 8mm chain, which you can also find on ebay. Also, somebody else mentioned, the engine on my bike is backwards because the output turns backwards, so make sure you design your bike or kart around the engine and CVT from the start.

You really ought to get one of these CVTs. It's a hot deal and it goes like hell. Thanks for your compliments on the bike design. I designed it by sitting on an upside down bucket and putting my hands up as if I were holding handlebars. Then I had my son measure all the distances between my feet, my hands, and the bucket I was sitting on. It looks kind of silly, but I like it. I'm planning to build another one almost the same, except it will have treaded tires and a slightly lower center of gravity, meaning it will be only about 80% as tall as this one.

If you're talking about my mini, yes, I DID take it to a motorcycle show. Not only did I ride it, I entered it in the show, and won first place for "Best ATV". I have to be honest and admit that mine was the only one in the class, and won by default .... :D

Drawing attention? Oh, yeah ...... EVERYONE was asking about it. One of the owners of the shop kept dragging her employees outside, saying, "You GOTTA see this thing - it's built out of tire irons." Of course, they didn't believe her until they saw it, and then couldn't believe it was actually rideable .... which I proved by tooling up and down the street a few times. Eventually, it's going to get a mini-sidecar.

Robbie, thanks for the link. I may have to go pick one of those CVT's up now, and mess around with it. I'm feeling the need to start building another custom bike .... When I bought this transmission, it was called a CVT (on evilbay), so that's what I've been calling it. By the way, you don't have to use the 8mm chain .... scooterparts4less and partsforscooters sell the new gearing for the CVT's that will fit the standard #25 pb chains.

If you're going to build another, try doing something like the BoneSaw mini-chopper. The drivetrain and wheels are generally the same as pb's, and since you already have experience working with those parts ....

GKM, the trans sells for about $25 on ebay and several pb vendor sites. The engines generally run anywhere from about $80-$120 brand-new, or you can find used pb's on craigslist and steal the engines out of them.

I checked out the vendors you mentioned and found what looks like the exact same unit. http://www.partsforscooters.com/CVT-Transmission
I really don't think those other inexpensive transmissions are CVT at all. They look like speed reducers. I want to get my bike on the pavement next to a car with a speedometer and see how fast it goes.

Regarding the chain size, the CVT has a splined output shaft and most of the available sprockets that fit it are for 8mm chain. I saw one sprocket with over 20 teeth for #25 chain, but it seems more sensible to just upgrade to a bigger chain and get an 8mm sprocket for your wheel. I bought several of these CVTs for future projects I've noticed that you can get 8mm sprockets with a 4-hole mounting pattern, so I'll be using those instead of pocket bike equipment in the future (after I use up the wheels on my other dead pocket bike).

Anyway, your little tire iron bike is super cool, as are a lot of the mini chopper type bikes. But I have the silly idea that I should be able to get on and ride in a comfortable position. When I lower the top of my next bike, I'll probably have to lengthen it a little bit so I'll still fit. I'm also trying to place the seat, handlebars and foot pegs in such a way that anybody from 6 feet tall (me) to less than 5 feet (my younger son) can ride comfortably.

Oh, I plan on doing the next bike as something more easily ridden. The tire iron bike was something I did just for fun to see if I could.
