But If u mean u cut a section into the frame then yes

If u mean u cut a section into the frame, then do the same to anoughter peice and join them them no, it will be stronger than just welding it straight in top

I couldnt think of how to do a cross section without it being 3D sorry. But yes I mean I want to notch two pieces and weld them together.

would that even work for rhs? with thick plate yea I understand, but arent you talking about the main frame metal?

I think this needs more info.
It depends where this is located and whatever other stresses are put on it aswell as and any other connecting joints nearby.

How do you intend to make the cutouts? Cutting across the tube is easy enough but what about cutting along the tube only 1"...

Also, where you have 90* joins, how will you close the ends?

With the pic provided, it looks like you will not have to section out any tubes.
The very front and rear tube of the first half will be T joints.

If I understand the drawing, you were wanting to section and then lap joint the crossing tubes, one over from the left and right vertical tubes?

Make the single tube running lengthwise the "back bone", make 2 T joints front and rear, miter the rest of the corners, cut to length the rest of tubes and weld to back bone. No need to lap any thing. All butt joints and easy welding.
