Sorry.......but between the Cowboys, the Stars, the Mavericks (occasionally).....the Texas Rangers and the TCU Horned Frogs,.....not to mention the PGA.........I really don't need another sport to distract me from what I should be doing........

Heck........to be honest .......I'd rather watch figure skating.......sorry.....

Soccer... Ugh. Dood gets a hangnail, they carry him off in an air ambulance. Hockey players have been known to score game-winning goal on broken ankles! (Look it up!)

Seriously- I'm not a soccer fan. With all this world cup action, I've been exposed to a lot of it. Had a few business lunches with various contacts and associates in the last couple weeks- yeah, in a bar over some suds- and I just can't take it. I actually witnesses England's goalie GET OUT OF THE WAY of an oncoming shot and let it in! I couldn't believe my eyes, so I carefully scrutinized several replays. YEP! The HECK?

I saw several occasions where a player took a dive and feigned injury, only to look around, realize the ref wasn't watching, and get up- miraculously uninjured- and play on. In hockey, that would be 2 minutes in "the sin bin" for Unsportsmanlike Conduct. And it sure is unsportsmanlike.

Nah- I just can't watch it...

It's hard for people like me (not a soccer fan at all...) to ignore the world cup, and I really try
But since my wife actually likes to watch at least every other game.. I watched todays game.
And OMFG!!!
I know little about this sport, but what I do know (I was told today) is that the worst world cup game brazil ever played in over fifty years was 0:3...

And today germany hit more than twice as many goals ...
Amazing.
but their goal keeper was asleep obviously (coolest name ever! // well after mine :D)

I barely even watched.. missed four goals :lolgoku: only saw the replay
But what I saw was fun to watch to say the least!

At the grass roots level, I can applaud a great many sports if it gets the kids motivated, active, and away from the video games. But when it gets to the point that the payroll of some of these teams exceeds the preventative health care budgets of many small countries, I start to view it as another sign of the apocalypse closing in on us......

All in all, I think International plowing contests are more interesting; FIFA rates about as high as an International parallel parking competition for me.....

I watch my college team's football season, and that's usually about it. I gained some interest in the strategy of soccer this year though. Less smash-mouth and more finesse. Though more physical than I thought. But yeah, plenty of flopping. I think Ginobli must have taken lessons with some of the soccer floppers, and, hey, I'm a Spurs fan. We know it's true. LOL.

Anyway I don't plan to follow soccer in the future, but it's been a pretty good tournament to flip on.

And seriously, that Germany game... Wow.

So today I flipped on the Argentina / Netherland game while working. This game is lame compared to yesterday. Where's my American football? ;)

Slightly off topic, but I have always wondered why Americans, when they barbecue (or braai in my case), only put weeners and hamburger patties on the grill????? Do you guys not have real meat to cook? Over here, if you put that on the fire you would get a smack down!!

We don't just grill weeners and burgers........but. ...there's a difference between grilling and barbecue. ....In Texas. ...the meat of choice is beef brisket. ...slow smoked on low temperature for 16-18 hrs with hickory, oak, mesquite or pecan. ... (usually a mix of them. ...)

Up north it's pork.......

But I guess we don't really have real meat here.....can't find zebra anywhere here......and our grills are too small for elephants. ....:lolgoku:

I got an elephant grill in my back yard. LOL.

So you are saying that the stereotype American portrayed in movies is untrue?

Whats the difference between the two?

I mostly use the grill for stuff like burgers, hot dogs, sausage, fish, etc. Then I'll use a smoker for things like ribs, jerky, brisket, and the like. The smoker hovers around 160*F for a solid 12-18 hours and is fueled by select woods and charcoal. Much like what Poboy said.
