Working on the Streaker (the Beast aka Killer)

I got this heavy rascal off the ground finally. Thought I would put up a few pics of the rear axle for those folks who have never seen one like this before.

We have a fully supported axle with a differential supported by 4 bearings and the braking is controlled by a single linkage manual dual disc brake system...and it can get sketchy trust me. This thing will turn on a dime and still spin both of those big tires on asphalt in a tight turn. It's fun until it starts to get out of hand and roll over!









The fun part is gonna be getting those axles tore down

I have one of those and love it. The Streakers have a nice strong frame. They make a great foundation for builds. I’m not trying to jack your thread but here’s a pic of my Streaker. You can build them for off-road or the paved street. Keep posting.

Oh yes, I have seen it and commented on it, I have 2 streakers. My other is less monstrous and more like the one you have pictured. I love what you did with yours, it's awesome

Lots of rain lately to go with the heat. So not much done.

Was able to remove some paint from the old decal to get a better ID on the kart. It is a model SC 6.



I did manage to remove the brake and throttle control rods and one of the hubs. I wasted a good bit of time fighting a loosing battle with the other. Pretty much where I stopped at.

Paint test on some bare metal. Just kind of a trial.

It's graphite wheel paint.

I took the picture at night but what do y'all think.

I like it. Same color I used. Looks very nice when it’s all done.

Here is a shot of the other color I was considering. It is a green/copper color change paint I picked up at the hobby store. I like the dark metallic green and the copper isn't bad. It's a pearlescent effect. The cell phone camera does not show it well at all. The glossy dark metallic green is dominant but the phone shows things I can't see. I'm still thinking on it.

The struggle is real!

I finally decided to take the rear axle off tonight.

I didn't get anything done with my other projects but it's the price one pays when dealing with stuck axle bearings and such.

This axle is held in place by 4 bearings none of which wanted to move. Neither did one of the hubs or either brake rotors. I had to carefully take the differential apart in place to get the axle out.

But it's the little achievements that feel like big wins at the end of the day.





If you've never removed stuck parts from anything you probably wouldn't understand, but if you haven't had the pleasure of taking them off of a go kart or a riding lawnmower or worn out track rollers off a bulldozer... well...you really don't understand...

Moving on to more messed up things...

I've got my work cut out for me on the engine mount plate.

Look at this thing! Who the h3ll does this crap to anything with a welder!




Sweet Baby Jesus! Why? I'll be the first to admit I'm no welder...but I ain't gonna do that to anything! They didn't even try to grind it down and start over!

Should I try to fix that abortion or just start over?

So...I have much to think about.

But all in all I made good progress on it tonight. I'll try and get the axle to a press sometime over the next few days and see about pushing the hub and rotors off. Once I do that I can clean it up and maybe put it back together and get it painted up.

So hopefully soon I can start going back together with this thing.

That kart isn't the Space Shuttle and you didn't pay through the nose for it....right?

Color choices look good, either/or. As long as it's not black on black. These are toys and should be relatively bright colored or eye catching, just my opinion.

Space Shuttle... I'm glad it's not... I had to study some of the Orbiter's airframe components and systems when I was in the USAF... Piece of junk... There were 5 flyable, they were all different, none fulfilled their contract obligation, built by the lowest bidder, project should have been scrapped from the getgo.

Nah, I paid like 150-200 bucks for it I think, that's a fairly going price for an intact kart down here.

I think I'm going to go with the color change green/copper paint. It'll work with the main theme I'm going for in the end. A Beast should have a draconian color scheme to it.


I'm hoping mine won't necessarily be considered a toy when it's back together. I mean it kinda is but it ain't...you know... it's all fun and games until you wreck the thing running 50 miles per hour...just saying...

I was looking at Kentuckyboy's thread and his Ken-Bar hauls balls.

I wanna see what I can do with just gearing and minor engine work first.

It'll be fun.

No updates lately I'm sorry to say, but the weather is cooling down and I'm really ready to get back to work on it...soon I hope, real soon!

Got a few medical issues I'm still working on as well... gotta get passed those hurdles...

When in doubt brace it and use more loctite.

The wheel hub is decenergrating from the big engine and the rims are cracking and breaking. Also found out my briggs 5hp has a bad cylinder wall. it's scratched really bad I have a video of it the video doesn't show just how bad it really is, but I'll take it back apart because I have plans to remove the governor for practice and I can sell it faster. it was ran on low oil by the previous owner so I'm not suprised how bad it is.

So, buy some new hubs and wheels. If they are cracking, it's probably because they're old and or bad. A different engine won't fix that. And I've seen worse scoring.
