Working on a kart...

Was given this kart by a friend who wanted to get rid of junk that he had lying around for years.
Played around and got the engine running again. Waiting,on a throttle cable. Need to replace or tube the front tires. Have to get a chain together for it. And then figure out a homeade linkage as the engine was swapped and never finished properly. The daughter is excited and can't wait for it to be ready. Any tips on the linkage would,be appreciated. It is a blue max 5.5hp. Appears to be a honda clone.

Looks like a great kart and a Manco no less. Complete with a seat! <--that's rare.

Tires leaky? The look fine though. They even have tread <--that's also rare.

Engines a little weathered. Was told it was out on ran around the yard once and parked lol.

You got a garage, shed or tarp to store that thing? Weather is thy enemy.

Those blue engines were so commonplace at one time....now, not so much.

In the off-season it will be under tarp. Ordered a new carb today as the old one the butterfly are super stiff and hard to move. Waiting I'm a cable and a tire in the mail then maybe I can get this thing rolling around lol

A lemon juice boil would most likely take care of that..

Got it fired up and took a few laps around. No brakes at all. Have to check for adjustment or replacement. And its very hard to steer while at slow speeds. Probably because of my 250lbs in it lol. Will look for grease fittings and take it from there.

part number 5 3931 doesn't come up on the internet for order anywhere. So if someone knew by chance what the size and thread was I could quickly make one to work. If not I will pull caliper and bring to work to find out but if I could do it without having to dismantle things I would prefer that route lol

Do you still have the pin? Or is it just damaged? The nut would give you the thread size/pitch.

You can get a rebuild kit on eBay, comes with new pin, backplate, bolt and pads.

but if you still have the lock nut (3932), it'd be easy to find the bolt size in your local hardware store, not?

Ive got no jam nut or pin. Pads are all there in good shape. Cart was donated to me for my kids and trying to get it together for as cheap as possible. Will buy rebuild kit if I have to. Will spend a day or two looking for just a pin and nut and then throw in the towel lol

Put the kart in your truck and head to Ace. Take a few sizes out to try until you find the right one. They should have no problems with that. I think its a 3/8 fine thread.....

It would be much easier to just take the caliper to the store.

That's an airheart mechanical caliper. Better off buying a new caliper and set aside the old one...

Or I guess get a new rebuild set...
