When i'm attempting to start the engine with a recoil it doesn't seem to turn the fly wheel quick enough, I think/know this because when I use a drill to try and start it, she fires right up, but I don't want to keep using my drill because doing this is prone to outwear the drill.

PS: I just bought a new recoil starter suspecting it to be the problem.

What model and brand engine is it? Do you use a lever choke? Primer bulb? Have you checked the air filter and spark plug? Will the starter coil engage with the flywheel right when you start pulling the rope or does it catch after you pull out a lot of rope?

Ha if u cant spin it over quick enough then its proberbly an issue in u
Need more weet bix

Or just make sure the starter is free and not binding up

It will also pay to check the engine it's self
There may be a reason it won't start
Either fuel air compression or spark

May pay to check the gap between the coil and the magnet on the flywheel

I can't recall the proper spec but its a business cards thickness

The recoil will only spin the engine as fast as you can pull. If your engine is hard to start by hand, it would seem to indicate another problem. If the recoils works at all, it works.
