We got our son a go kart years ago and it’s been sitting. It’s gas powered, has a tecumseh 3.5 motor. There’s no wiring except for the brake and gas cables. I changed the spark plug. Can you help me wire it so I can get it running for my grandson? Where do I start?

How does the inside of the gas tank look?
...what does it do (& sound like) when you pull the starter cable?

We thought you meant electrical wiring, or at least I did.
For the brake and throttle wires we typically call those cables, a multi strand wire brake or throttle cable sliding inside a cable-conduit sheath.
The only actual wire I would recommend is a kill switch & wire which is designed to kill the engine right then and there. It can be a toggle switch that has hard on/off positions like a light switch or it can be a momentary switch that you have to hold down until the engine dies.
Mount it on or near the steering wheel or in an accessible location. It prevents a runaway kart if the throttle should stick (in the full throttle position or in any position apart from dead idle) and you can't stop it. In fact that is the best way to turn off the engine, despite the fact that a lot of them have an on/off switch right on the engine---a switch located far away from the engine prevents you from possibly burning your hands as you reach over and around the engine; it will be very hot after running.
