I got to thinking (never a good thing, thankfully not a common occurrence), that maybe there should be a counter thread to the Honey thread where people could relate the good days. I've heard that can be uplifting as well-but I'm more used to using the back door.

It's a bad day when ever you have to sell tools to keep the house; It's an awesome day when you've looked at the exact same replacement band saw that is identical except for color and brand tags from a full 1/2 dozen different vendors with the cheapest being $300 bucks, and you just found a super coupon for HF for that saw at $179.00....

I just got home; it's still in the back seat of the car.

The best day I've had for a while was the day I bought a running GX140 & (most of) a GX160 for $50... or maybe it was when I got my shifter for $250?

No, wait, it might have been the day of the AmEx test drive, although, there was a downer with the chain tensioner not performing but, that was the only problem so... still a good day

I had a pretty good day today indeed.

I was hunting for a rather rare watch part for almost two full years now.
And just a week ago someone offered a box full of watchparts on ebay (for a price I couldn't afford)
and on one picture I thought I've seen the ONE part I was looking for,
so I asked the seller if he is willing to sell just that part, he didn't wanted to.
And over the last week he luckily changed his mind yesterday, and just two more messages later (confirming it was the part I need) he today agreed to sell me that one part.

Finally I can finish yet another watch of mine

It's a bad day when ever you have to sell tools to keep the house; It's an awesome day when you've looked at the exact same replacement band saw that is identical except for color and brand tags from a full 1/2 dozen different vendors with the cheapest being $300 bucks, and you just found a super coupon for HF for that saw at $179.00....

I just got home; it's still in the back seat of the car.

I think I have one. 14"? It's really a pretty good machine. I had a buddy weld me up a riser block so I could increase its capacity to resaw 12" material with a longer blade.I ran the material through a table saw on both sides first, but still it got the job done. The alternative was well over $1000 for an entry level machine capable of that.
I replaced the rub blocks with cool blocks and setting up everything is a little bit touchy, but I have no complaints.

Not a perfect day today, but it was my first "official" day at my new job- wrenching at an independent shop. The owner kind of threw be a bone and payed me under the table to work when there was extra work, since I quit my old job. He was happy enough with my work that he decided on Friday to make it full-time, though.

Then, on top of that, on Friday, a customer who's a retired firefighter talked me into doing something about that ocasional thought of going into firefighting. Looking into joining one of the volunteer departments.

I had a good day last week when I was able to find a new door for our convection microwave. I had broken the glass in the old one, and this model is not made anymore so there are no spares. Fortunately one of the repair stores had a old broken one in the back which he sold the door off of.

I think you've got a vertical type wood saw; the one I just brought home is the 4X6 Inch cap. metal cutting H/V band saw.

Nice!! On both fronts; A] it sounds like you might have found a shop where you can hang for a while (like it or not, any type of workshop basically becomes extended family for you: if the one you're in doesn't work, it's time for a divorces). B] Any type of in depth safety training is all to the good; if the calling fit's you, then all I can do is say "Hats off" and lend whatever support I might be able to. Just be aware that any volunteer organization is an extended family of sorts, and has many of the same rules as the work shop, listed above. That being said, if it fits, go for it!!

People complain about 'planned obsolescence' in cars; where it really show's up is in durable & consumer goods. I'm glad you have a source for parts like that; it's a shame to scrap something that works great just because one part is no longer available.....

Oh yeah, so true. The coworkers are one of the few things I miss about working at the stealership. Not all of them, just a few Interestingly enough, there are two other full time guys at this shop who've been in the business for decades. They're perfectly happy doing oil changes and alignments. I get oil pan gaskets, tune ups, tranny filter changes, etc. Works out great, really. Just a month and a half till I can finally send in my work experience forms and officially get my ASE's.


Firefighters have such a camaraderie; it almost seems even closer than family. I called the county Department of Public Safety and got all the info I needed this afternoon. Got the application all ready to send out tomorrow. Sounds like it'll be a long series of steps ahead, which is perfect, considering how goal-oriented I am. Thanks for the support

I wish you all the luck in the Fire Department. I'm volunteer for a dept and I went through an Academy last summer. While it was one of the hardest things I've ever done, I learned a lot about firefighting and myself, and now I look back at it as one of the best things I've ever done. I hope it works out the same for you should you choose to fully pursue it.

Then going to get experience in the component rebuild for 2 weeks to help reassemble and test a 785c tranny

Then going up to port headland to fit engine/tranny to the truck
