Since I had a mower and a few go kart's worth of parts laying around....
Time for a Race Mower build!!!

Donor mower is a early 00's Craftsman that came with a nuked hydrostatic and a 18hp Kholer single.

The engine we're using for this one is a Briggs 18hp oppy with a mikuni, pulse pump and soon to be exhaust. The engine was provided by Karl (thanks).

After the whole mower was torn down I set it up at ride height and set the front axle on the front and figured why not.
The axle sits just high enough to use the original mounts flipped upside down. The whole setup got welded together, all 6011 3/32 rod.

The rear axle's a peerless differential out of a Bird Baja. It'll have 8in wheels and the 18 in. Goodyear tires, it should help this thing turn good.

Don’t threaten the guy who gives you cool stuff.
More of a promise than a threat.

Mounted the steering properly and made a drag link. Still using the mower's stock steering until I have more time to do it properly.

Also had time to throw a tire on the unbent wheel and chop the fender to fit. The seat is still just sitting there for mockup until it can get mounted.

Still left is:
Mounting engine
Exhaust
A gas tank
Both jackshafts
Seat mounting
Other rear tire
Wiring,
Lights (led pods)

It's a pretty good view from the seat.

Almost 2 years later, finally getting back into this thing.
Lil planning rework (aka my parts pile)
Going back to a vert shaft engine. Most likely an oppy since I have one that was running when I swapped the other mower, as well as a 6 speed transaxle, flipped and modded to spin oposite (believe its needed?)
And the blurry pic, now almoat 2 years later of the thing now that I dug it up20231205_204531.jpg
Oh, and limited floor space.

I’d build that flying kart on the ceiling! It’d be so cool to have a flying kart!
