Hey guys, a few months ago I had my computer (PC) have a crash due to the last update for XP.
It might have been that I didnt defrag much or enough, but whatever. The major personal files were saved on my partition, the XP had to be reloaded.

I just finally got the wireless drivers installed, but I need to get the sound drivers installed and the last update for xp, the update center isnt working anymore.

I understand they(MS) arent helping anymore but I cant seem to find out where the last update is located or how to get sound. MS XP sp2

Any one know???
Sid???

Edit: Is this it???

www.driversguide.com is the best spot for drivers MicroNOOB is useless unless you pay them. Reinstall sound drivers should get you back going. Dont bother updating windows the updates are out of date anyways get vista if your computer will handle it.

Can't re/install sound drivers as I don't know where they are and regardless of being useless, just looking for the last update.
My fallout and steam games apparently don't work well with vist, I'm also a fan of XP anyways.

Vista is the last thing I would recommend to anyone; MS themselves couldn't run away fast enough when it became apparent just how poor a job they had done. At several past employer's we just came to ridicule it's massive failings by comforting the latest soul who found that by trying to save and back up their data they had commended it all to the abyss by saying "The white screen of doom has your data now; be glad it doesn't have you.......

We're scrambling a bit at my current job, because almost all of the server tower's on the shop floor have been running XP for most of the last decade. The IT staff are starting to introduce Windows 7 as older PC's die, but we're having some communication issues downloading to various CNC machines....

That being said, I would still look at Windows 7; it's the first version that I personally have seen lately that almost doesn't suck....

A MS update won't help you get your sound back, you need the sound card driver...

Look for the make & model number of your motherboard & google that number & "sound driver", you should be able to d/l the driver from the MB manufacturer website...

Windows 7 is the first OS I actually paid for; Vista was rubbish & so is 8

I have the SP3 here on my pc. If you have some sort of file sharing program that can take 350MB. I also have SP2 at home on a disc if you would rather want that

U guys are way too far ahead of time
Windows 2000 is where it's at
The workshop computer with Catterpiller software is running 2000
Runs great

The new Laptop with ET is running 7
But it crashed a **** of a lot
I don't think 7 is very well setup to run OEM software that demands inporting and exporting data
Sounds like u guys are having the same issues machinist

My laptop is running 7
Sopose to have vista on it
But as soon as 7 came out I got rid of vista

The best source for your audio driver is -since I highly assume a onboard soundcard- the mainboard manufacturer.

So, if you do not know the make and model of your Mainboard,
easiest way.. get a copy of Lavalys everest home (old freeware)
here
http://www.filehippo.com/de/download_everest_home
or here
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Everest-Home-Edition.shtml
(make sure you click the correct download button, not the ad)

So, in everest, just click on my computer -> overview
and you'll find make and model of your mainboard.
(linked to the corresponding website of the manufacturer)

click it and follow the website to find the driver downloads,
if you get stuck or the link isn't working;
let me know the make and model.

I remembered I had Realtek HD audio, last time. Looked for those drivers and those seem to work.
I have an on board sound card,
AMD Athlon 64x2, dual core. 3600. 1.91ghz, 3.50gb ram.
It is an older computer, but basically the first one I bought, and I do love it for what it is. Plays my fallout games and I'm good.

So back on the Comp now, all good except can update alot of drivers cause I dont have the last update for the windows. SP3?

Does any one know where I download the last update for the XP. Im shy short of calling them as I personally dont know what to do but I cant afford to go out and buy a new computer with all stuff working, Ironically the last update caused this malfunction in the first place.

well..
if you have activated restore points, revert the sp3 installation
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ht/system-restore-xp.htm
sometimes that's enough..

SP installations do NOT require reinstallation of drivers.. never!
So there's something wrong with the install anyways.

If you do have a good most recent backup of your data (personal files, photos, mails etc..)
start from scratch, if not, you must try to fix it I'm afraid.

Please let me know the make&exact model of your computer,
since I think you bought a preassembled pc say asus or dell or something;
I'm sure I can point you to all drivers you need.
