Will my torqu converter work on my new engine?

I recently purchased a new B&S engine for my sons go kart. It replaced the Techumsi. My proble is that the Techumsi has a 3" output shaft that the torque converter fit on but, the new B&S motor has a 2-7/16" shaft. Can I put the torque converter on the new B&S motor? If so how?

What shaft diameter? If a 20 or 30 series, as long as atleast 1/4" of the splints hub is on the shaft, then it should be ok.
