AC stick is crap lol. Might as well buy a DC Chinese machine. You need to start the marathon taking one step forward not three back. Hence 119.00 DC 80 amp arc welder with scratch start tig setup, er70 filler. I'll order you some glasses Randy H.

At least you didnt use coat hanger wire.

You'll be dead, in your grave, and your bones dust before those tailgate welds fail.

You seem to have serious issues recognizing DIY sheetmetal work and structural welding.

Now THAT YOU HAVE CONTINUED TO RUN YOUR MOUTH....let's see some sheetmetal bodywork welds....WISEGUY.

And you know...flux core welders get nasty...but ...ONCE AGAIN...if you knew ANYTHING...you would know with thin metal...you CANNOT lay beads or everything will warp and distort...please feel free to shut up now with your pants halfway down....nobody wants to see what's showing.

BTW....See below :)V) ....

Maybe try some 7018AC. I learned on a buzz box, but have since purchased three DC machines and will never go back. I used 6011 and 7018AC rod but I prefer the 1/3 2/3 being one constant direction vs. Switching 60 times a second.

A 150amp DC rectifier can fix the 90 Flux core problems though.

What does a crappy sheet metal weld have to do with the frame of a motorized vehicle? Sorry I struck a nerve. I'm giving legitimate advice that I can back up without insults.

Ummmm..DA...WHO started picking on a beginner welder doing WHAT WAS REQUIRED TO DIY? ON BASICALLY SHEET METAL ....WITH A HF WELDER???? IT'S ABSOLUTE WEAK POINT...

BTW: I've left prettier looking stuff in the toilet before I flushed.

SO.....NOW...You!!!!!! Want to ask ME about what this has to do with structural welding?????

WHAT A DAZZ!

Using 7018 is wasteful if you dont keep it in heat about 200*F...it's a low hydrogen electrode. You want something just as good, 7014.

If you can do this with a HF AC machine. Then I will admit defeat. I went to HF and got some flux cored wire. I didn't intend on posting this. Didnt clean anything didnt switch polarity. Its not a weld to brag about, to be sure. Just messin' round.

I am not sure what you are trying to prove there.
I believe the only time HF flux WIRE was mentioned was by me and I recommended NOT using it.

Anyway My point was. Everyone is not Spoiled like you. and a 99 dollar Welder and a Go kart is a great place to learn.
I am that Guy that would Horrify you, as a beginner welding up my own Spindles. With a cheap Home Depot Lincoln 110v 125 Welder.
I have built 6 Go karts and made all my own spindles. Have not broke one yet.
I just do not know why you want to scare people into NOT learning to weld as a hobby.

There is a 12yr old here who just got his first Welder. Yes HF flux Wire 90 amp 110v. Are you suggesting having "Bought a Miller Synchrowave 351" would be the ONLY way.

It sounds as if you learned to drive in a Brand new Corvette, and you think as if anyone who learned in a 20yr old pick up is WRONG.

I dont get it.

let's see some sheetmetal bodywork welds....WISEGUY.

:D

This was actually welded with a harbor freight welder. 160 amp inverter tig. I use it for everything. I think this guy should learn to weld, but don't learn to weld on a frame. Practice for a month or two, it's not worth getting crippled over pride.

For what it's worth, I learned to weld with my dad's Lincoln tombstone. Once I figured out how to turn it on I welded everything I could get my hands on. Then I got a cheap flux core wire welder I built a go kart with it, but I had already been welding for about 10 years. Then I got a good mig, I still have it, but don't use it much since I got my tig.

I would also like to add that you shouldn't overlook used race karts, my neighbor bought one and set it up as a yard kart and it was so much fun that I bought one. Not good for any off road at all, but more fun than whiskey and hookers in the yard.

Pay attention. Poboy. I dissed the HF 90 amp AC machine. I used Harbor Freight wire on a Millermatic 135. Really just for kicks. Worked my butt off to buy the machine 10 years ago.

By all means continue your history of insults and unsubstantiated crap.

Gentlemem, "get a grip" all these NEGATIVE vibes are draggin' everybody down! :ack2:

Randy, you've made your opinion on the HF amp 90 very clear.

Now, unless you have substantiated proof, that a DIY HF 90 amp weld WILL fail...

put a sock in it (to put it nicely)

If you want to discuss "welding concepts" any further, start your own thread, :backtotopic: this one's about prebuilt frames

I do not think the HF welder is Junk.
I do not think it is a GREAT welder either.

Let me say this, Spending the money if you have it, On a good Quality name brand unit is a good investment.

Take a look at Kart fabs thread here:http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=34332

He discusses how the investment paid off in full on many different machines. He paid 400 and after years of use sold for 400.
There are not alot of things you can get full return on selling used.
It seems a good welder is one of them.

But if you do not have the cash. HF is still a good start.
