I finally got round to getting myself a little compact camera and went for this- the samsung st61 which is only 16mm thick, and has 4x optical zoom, 12.2mp and hd video.
The seller sent me this as the description:

this item is in a nearly new condition. there is NO damage to the screen or lens. this camerawould be in a new condition if it was not for a TINY dent on the silver circle on the front. it is bearly noticable and apart from that the camera is as good as new. this is one of the lowest prices available. thank you for your interest in this item.

However when recueved the lens looked like this-

Incase you cant see what is wrong, the lens should be closed, be flush with the case and not at a crooked angle.
I sent him a message and his reply was:

we cannot see the pictures you sent us. you cannot send images in these emails. the item was in a full working condition when sent. any damage must have been caused in the post. this is not our fault.

I'm sorry but it is beond me how a lens can open, pop out by a few mm and get crooked through 2 layers of bubble wrap, when the camera had no battery in!

I am now trying to get a partial refund and going to attemt to fix with parts from another faulty camera.

Grrrr some people. How can they think that they are going to get away with it?

did you put a battery in and turn it on, then off? on my kodak if i run out of battery mine gets stuck a bit like that

i havent got a battery yet, but I plugged it into the pc. however the lens looks dented.
The battery should be here soon, I will try it thanks.

Ok well i frikkin ordered the battery from abroad not looking at the postal time :/
Should be here in a week or two. I will see what they say to my reply. If he says it was like that when it shipped then i will wait for the battery.
I do not want to ship it back, especially before recieving a refund. I would like to repair it by installing a new lens from a camera with other faults.

I cannot see that lens opening and giving as little trouble as tilted pictures.
I will wait for the reply, and tell you how i get on.

Submit a complaint through Ebay/Paypal (if you used it) as they are quite helpful. Did the seller have many reviews? If so, were they positive?

I'm with kendelrk. my camera also does that when the battery dies ... doesn't close or retract all the way, dont try to take it apart and swap out parts it wont work at all. just wait for the battery. if its been sitting for a while then you might have to " help" the lens come out once you install the bat.

If it is damaged, file a claim. Item not as described. Describe how the packaging was intact, the box was intact, and shipping had no role in this and he has had previous problems with his past auctions.

eBay is with the seller, trust me I would know. Demand that he pay shipping for the item to be returned for attempting to scam YOU with it.

Ok thanks. I have filed a complaint, but i would quite like to fix the camera so i have asked for £10 back, so i essentially pay £10 for the camera.
Edit: also look on the right hand side of the lens. There is a "dent" around the lens.
The only way this could have happened in the post is the camera being posted with the lens partially out and then the camera thrown at the ground... it had two layers of bbble wrap!

You will win the case almost for sure. I have been there done this.

If you try to fix it you will lose the case. ebay states item must be returned in original condition. If you work on it and the ebay knows you will lose the case.

99.9% the buyer will win the case. It's just how it is.

If you buy a engine as running condition. Then when you get the engine it is seized up. If you pull the head to look and then file a case. You will lose.

Ok. I kinda took it apart to have a look but i wont say anything about that
Edit: i got a partial refund of £10 now to fix it.
Edit2: I have got the camera fully disassembled, and I took apart the lens and it was broken. Just need a donor camera now for parts.
Edit3: I am going to bid on this If I win I will put the lens in my camera and then sell off the camera parts, eg. lcd etc.
I could probably make £10 back off it/ essentially get it for free.

I have this old camera. Cannot remember whats wrong with it. But you can have it if you can use it. Does have a battery but do not know how good. Camera is about 3 years old or longer.
