Who said HF wire/rods were bad?

ive used the HF gasless mig wire and it really isnt terrible. i can make welds like that.
i just use lincoln because it is somewhat better. i buy 10 pound reels pretty much every 6months to a year and rigged up pocket bike forks to hold the axle for the reel. feeds in through the back and only one problem has happened. i put the ground clamp hanging on the axle (bad idea, grounds the wire) then turned it on. the section that goes from the tip to the hole i made in the machine started to glow and smoked a lot of plastic before i noticed and shut it off.
replaced that section of wire and it welds good now, no problems, just gotta be careful where i put that ground clamp.
i have the 90 amp wire feed gasless welder from harbor freight.

the thread directly under this one , the very first post says otherwise. i agree with this op. i've had good luck with them although they do smoke a lot. thats kinda one of the properties of flux type consumables
Yes, the welds were wire wheeled before the pictures. However, there are also pictures before any wire wheeling. I could practically brush that "excessive spatter" off lol.
Dude, FCAW smokes a ton. That's an aspect you'll have to live with regardless of brand lol.

I took a welding class in jr high then recently took another at GCC, AZ I learned quite a bit, my first welder was a HF arc 110amp and after the class I upgraded to a Lincoln "tombstone", this morning I was at the HF sidewalk sale and saw their 90amp wire feed for only $99, I thought what the hell I'll buy it, test it, and return it if it sucks, I've thrown down a few tests and I'm surprised by how good it works!
