There seems to be a ton of mods and info on the small block OHV engines and flatheads, but I don't find much on the single cylinder big blocks.

I have a vanguard 9hp which is about 250cc and a new predator 301 which is an 8hp.

I'm looking to start hopping up the vanguard for the reason is I blew one up and have extra parts.
I was gonna make a high compression P&P'd head from the donor engine. I'm already running a Micuni round slide and an exaust pipe will be fabbed for the modded head. Now it's just the stocker.

I'm probably gonna need a billet con rod.
This is where I'm stumped.
Is there parts for this engine?
What other engines use the same parts? The 390s 420s?

Also in the future the new 301 will also get gutted of the internal time bomb. At which it might get the same treatment.

I'm wanting more of a torque monster than a high speed kart. And I know gearing will help but I like the pull of a good stroker.

There's a number of reasons for that; the main ones being price & availability; just a simple cent clutch for a 1" shaft is 4-5 times the price of a 3/4" equivalent...

However, that could be as a result of a catch 22: are small block parts cheaper & more abundant because they're more popular or are they more popular because they're cheaper & more abundant?

Either way, there are performance parts available for big blocks, it simply takes a bit of searching...

Having said that, it's possible to build a torque monster with stock parts, you simply need to know what to do with what parts...

IMO, stroke isn't everything; in fact, I prefer a shorter stroke to a longer one; a GX200 has a 54mm stroke whereas a GX160 has a 45mm stroke but, they have the same size bore (68mm) & my GX160 is somewhat of a torque monster...
