I have a 10hp tecumseh motor on a Manco dingo and was ripping around the yard for about 15 minutes and noticed that quite a bit of white smoke was coming from the exhaust? It started bogging down and eventually died after giving it gas , anybody know what’s going on ?

Sounds like blowby pushed oil through the crankcase breather back into the air intake.

If you run them above governed speeds, like adjust or remove it, it will happen.

Or the motor is just worn and the cylinder has too much blowby.

Instead of running the breather hose back to the intake, you could let it vent to atmosphere and drip oil,
or route the hose to an oil catch can.

Also don't put multi weight oil in these motors like 5 or 10w 30, straight sae30 is what you want to use

Why not use any multi weight oils? Aren't they better for cold starting?
Because the engineers at tecumseh said so. Its says right on the dipstick to run sae30.
For winter use , 5w30 is recommended, and if you don't have that 10w30 is an acceptable substitute,
again for cold weather use. It says in their service update book, and the repair manual that running multi grade oil in
warm weather will cause excessive oil consumption.

I have run 5w30 in a 10hp tecumseh with the gov turned up, and after a few mins of hard running, it
would push oil through the breather and cause lots of smoke. With straight 30 it took much longer
above 3600rpm to do that.

I just don't understand why you treat your equipment like crap and leave it outside to rust and rot !!!!!!

Da reflash

Not all of us have the space, but a tarp is nice. But, you do have to remember, while treating them the best is ideal, they aren't show cars, and lots of us use them as a supplement to cars and we have no garage space. I personally have no garage, but I keep it under a tarp.

So I changed the oil and cleaned the carb and i can’t get it to start back up . It won’t run without carb cleaner and will only run for a split second until it burns off .

Ok so I have to bring this up because it made me feel stupid. I have an 8hp tecumseh that runs really really well but always blew tons of oil ungoverned. I was watching a random YouTube video and the guy happened to mention the breather could be bolted in upside down so the drain holes are at the top of the breather not the bottom and the breather fills with oil then blows out the plastic tube. Sure enough I had put the breather in upside down. it doesn't blow any oil at all now that the holes are at the bottom of the breather allowing oil to return.

Did it start before the carb clean+ oil change?
