I have never built a Kart before and I'm beginning to understand it will cost me more to build my own then to buy one used or new.
I'm okay with that because I want to learn and understand as much as I can about this "hobby". I realize I could buy a used Kart for a very reasonable price and learn from how it was built but I feel I will learn and retain more insite if I "Do it myself".
My son-in-law is a very good welder/fabricator/mechanic and is great about helping me. However everyone knows he is very good at this work an he is kept very busy with various projects including his own, side jobs and favors.
Thus I am trying to do the reasearch on the Kart so I can explain to him what I need, supply the parts and require only the minumin distraction for him.
This is where the DIY sight (members) have been irreplacable. Thanks to all. Sorry about the long post I just wanted to explain my paticular situation (ignorant with good *support).
*Thats you people.
Finally my question.....I recently bought this frame.....
http://www.gokartnminibikeparts.com/go_kart_&_minibike_frames.htm
I want to build a yard kart (used on dirt lot, gravel road and maybe we will take it with us to the sand sometime). I thought I would next try to pick up parts to set up the front wheels.
I found the spindle brackets are mounted 90 deg. to the frame. Should I plan on remounting them to add camber and castor??
When I look at spindles I see so many options I am confused. I see differant lengths, differant tierod bracket angles, no tie rod brackets.
I have tryed to reasearch posts on this and it looks like I should plan to set up tierod brackets after the rear axle has been installed (for proper Ackerman) and the spindles set for toe in, camber, and castor.
I don't mind cutting them off the spindle and resetting them if I buy spindles with these brackets. Is this what is usually done??? Am I reading to much into this???
I thought I would try to use a tire about 10" tall, maybe 4" to 6" wide. Would the tire choice need to be considered before the spindle type/size???
How should I approch this??? Thanks.............Kent
