I am almost 16 so I am looking for a car. I can either get my dads 2005 chevy silverado 2500 HD, a hummer h3, or a fj cruiser. I wouLd put a lift kit and big tires on each for mudding and offroading. Which do you think I should get? Or I was thinking about a Subaru wrx sti. I'm not sure about the sti because I kinda want a vehicle that I can wheel with

Dude wtf. Wish I had that choice. By personal preference, I'd lean towards the Bowtie, but being an HD, that kinda limits aftermarket support, considering they were made with towing in mind. But it might have potential, depending on the cab and bed. Crewcab, Longbed=Bad wheeling choice for anything other than a mud pit. The H3 is kinda girly, and that's all I'll say on that part of the subject. Being realistic, an FJ can also be quite girly, but also one of the most badas$ trail rigs out there, and can be modified in almost any way you can imagine, to suit your specific (or not so specific) needs. Suby's are the sexiest vehicles alive, and trust me, you can wheel it! If you get the STi, you're unstoppable. I hate anything foreign, but America falls short in this battle.

whos paying for insurance? and whos paying for the vehicle? the hummer will get 10 mpg, and make everyone think u have a tiny ***** (no offense hummer people), the chevy would be alright...i wouldnt take such a new truck mudding tho.

I'd go for a beater for your first car/truck, insurance is gonna be sky high anyways...but if your dad is offering you a basically brand new truck, that might not be an issue.

suby would be pretty sweet, not the best mudhole rig tho.

The truck is already kinda beat up, it has around 250000 miles on it. The hummer actually gets 19 mpg, which is better than my families Yukon. I really like the subi, but I don't think my parents will like the insurance bill. I'm kinda leaning towards the FJ, I'm not sure how a lifted FJ is girly though That One Guy.

The FJ is one of the ugliest things i've seen, stock that is. You can make them pretty nice...but it takes a bit.

I like the new white colored ones with the black rims, I absolutely hate the blue and yellow ones. I would probably buy a winch and bar on the front, a nicer roof rack with some nice hella lights and maybe put a sound system in the inside. I would also put a snorkel on it, if incould find one that fits or I may have to fabricate my own.

That's the reason I told you FJ's can be badas$. They put that thing through the KOH. Does anyone else subscribe to Petersens, or am I an exception?

Yeah, I'll probably make my own snorkel. Do you think a flowmaster or a magna flow would get ruined or ruin the engine if I submerged it? I love the sound of trucks with a nice exhaust

I doubt you'd ruin any exhaust by submerging it, and the only way it could mess the engine up is if you were angled nose down, with the exhaust under the surface of the water (which is near impossible unless you're hoplessly stuck in the ocean) and have the engine shut off. In which case, trying to start your engine would hydrolock it. Otherwise, the exhausts air is more than enough to keep all water out. And Flowmaster does make some d a m n nice sounding systems.

I'd go with the FJ if you can make it look halfway not girly post some pictures. Very much want to see how that goes, the picture you posted looks like the dude driving it needs a safari outfit on.

Decent snorkel, and you can go in the ocean bro.

Heck, you could set it on fire, drop it from a building, anything you wanted.

Buy some slow sedan for $1000, learn to drive in something that is somewhat disposable and incredibly forgiving because it lacks the power to get you in much trouble.

I hate to be a spoil sport, but I agree with Kenny. Get a beat up old sedan and drive it on the road, off the road, or wherever.

Ever heard the classic definition of a boat? It's a hole in the water that you throw money into. Fancy trucks are the same way. Total waste of cash, or even worse, credit.

My first car was a 1980 Subaru GL sedan that had a top highway speed of just under 80, which I know because I tried it. The speedometer went up only to 80, so I think they knew that when they built it. I used to drive that car in the drainage ditches, and it was an excellent mud vehicle. Total cost: $600. When I sold it I got $500.

My other favorite vehicle was a 1976 Corolla that my wife and I bought in 1995 for $249 out of somebody's back yard. I rebuilt the clutch cylinder, and that's about all I had to do to it. I loved that car.

If your dad is buying, try this angle. Tell him you'd rather drive an old beater and invest the rest of the money he would otherwise be offering in some kind of business that you could operate. He will think you're some kind of genius, and guess what, you'll actually be spending the money on a valuable education. Even if you lose every penny it will be better than wasting it on a shiny vehicle or going to college. And you would have a hundred times more fun driving an old station wagon or minivan in a mud hole than a 4WD whatever-it-is. Where's the challenge in mud-driving a vehicle that's designed for it? Get a 1990 Dodge Caravan in and out of a mud hole and you're a real man.
