Russ, gokartsusa is a ripoff, they charge 54 dollars for a 35 dollar at most clutch and 24 for a chain guard that we sell for 8 dollars and we buy for 6.... thats absolutely terrible. The kart is small and should never cost that much.

Agreed, my dad got that kit for me like 5 years ago, worth about 300 in my eyes, maybe less. Its well made, but the frame is only 2ft wide and 4ft long. Could easily make a custom frame better and cheaper than that.

Perfect!!!

The Stingray is one wheel drive ($50 cheaper) and is just too big and heavy (400lbs w/engine?) with a high center of gravity.
Azusa kart weighs in at 153 lbs. in it's completed form.
I don't do any off roading which negates the need for the cage.
There are other reasons the Stingray is an unacceptable design such as band brake (cheaper again by about $100 and another $16 for wheel bearings).

Azusa is 100% made in USA...something I'm willing to pay more for.
I'm not gettin' the argument.
That is bad ***!
Thanx, it is.
No better feeling than when engines hit the power curve and you get slammed back into the seat.
As close to "old school" karting as it gets.

Dude, I love Azusa. The stingray from northern for 400 is Chinese and most likely will be poorly made. My point is that the Azusa designed kart is small, its fantastic for children or short adults but it is hardly what I consider full sized.

There are tons of karts on craigslist or rummage sales that will be larger and cheaper for a better design.

For quality I love Azusa, for design I love Azusa, for being an American company that has been in business for over 30 years they rock. I am not saying they make a bad kart or poorly designed products, I'm just saying their target base was most likely 12-14 year old kids who want to learn to use tools, which is great for that kit. It is just small and gokartsusa is a freaking rip-off and liars.

Boy this is turning into a back yard feud.

My 2 cents here is go ahead and get one from Craigs List. You can get an older one, clean it up and get it running for less then buying a kit. But if your not interested in doing wrenching work on one then buy one. I cant give you a place for that but it looks like others have strong feelings about their stores.

Good luck,
Chris

I do agree with ctraugh there regarding buying from an individual for quality and pricing.

It must look at though I was hateful towards gokartsusa in my previous statements in this thread. I have a hard time respecting any store that misleads their customers with misinformation and high prices.

Take this for example.

http://gokartsusa.com/kinroadsicily50moped.aspx

Can anyone point out the main lie is in this page?

I do not want to detract from the thread here, a kit will cost a considerable amount, if you want everything set up for you then go Azusa, if you want to save a bit and still have something moderately easy, rebuild a kart you can find from an individual, if you want a new kart, go get one.

Lastly, sorry Russ, wasn't trying to call you short there holmes, I'm only 5'11 and it feels super cramped in that sucker, it seems to be designed for people under 5'7.

My father sold BlitzKart's for a short time in early 60's.
Dimensionally wasn't to far different from the Azusa.
I wanted to stick with old school design and avoid the "buggy" look.
Sorry to say, but most of what I see in this forum are not what I would call true gokarts.
I'm not knockin' them, they're just not for me.

Oh, I agree. It is a thin line we walk and even some of the karts we work on would not traditionally be consider karts but we try not to veer so much. Anything in the line of a 150cc buggy is just a 4 wheeler with seats, heh.

A apple with carmel on it is still a apple Todays country music is still country even if Mr. CASH is not singing.
Everyone wants what they want.
I wanted a racing kart for my kids on the streets and parking lot.
Best idea no but they like it and so do I.
Your best bet is to find a older fixer upper and fix it up. Find something you like and work with it.
Alot of that china stuff is plain crap. Not all but I don't think i'll risk my kids life on it.
GoPed I got from my boss for free, china junk. had to almost stop to turn or wipe out.

Plus if you take the time to work on it yourself you have a better understanding on how it works. That way you can improve it.
I wish you the best and happy karting (any type)
