Where to begin?

My husband is turning 40 in a few months and also just joined the local Shriner's, as a way to help raise money for the organization that funds my son's orthopedic treatments.

He wants to join the motor patrol section when he chooses his Shriner "specialty", but needs to get a mini Shriner's car.. With that said, being an amazing wife I want to buy him at least a used Go Kart, that he can work on to create the mini vehicle that he wants (he wants a monster mini Jeep).

So, I've looked on Craig's List, ebay, etc, for a used go kart, but I just realized I am absolutely clueless with what go kart would work mechanics wise, and frame wise (with alterations of course) for his potential mini jeep...

I saw a Carter Brothers Jeep go kart on craig's list, and it was sold, which would have been perfect....

Any advice, would be amazing!

Keep looking on craigslist, it's a good bet.

What part of the country? I'm sure some folks here wouldn't mind scouring craigslist looking for something that would fit the bill!

Instead of a go kart maybe start with a riding lawnmower? Seems like it would be easier to turn into what you want rather than a kart

Your best bet is to talk to existing members and ask them.
It'll save time and money.
A lot of the Shriner's vehicles I've seen aren't modified go karts but purpose built.
I'm sure they'd be glad to point you in the right direction.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I've reached out to one of the Shriner's, but they're busy busy setting up the circus stuff... I'll search the forum for the suggested jeep and monster truck, to see what others have done, and go from there. Thanks so much!!

Idk what the Shriners even are but this seems like a fun build. If it were me tho, like I said. I would find a used riding lawnmower/tractor, and remove the cutting deck as a start. Maybe to get the monster truck/jeep look you are after you can find an old broken or non working battery operated kids power wheels jeep and modify the top of the body plastics to sit on top of the riding mower frame. Lol now I wanna build one, sounds like a really fun project especially if your husband can get your son involved
