As you might know, finding go karts for cheap is getting harder. Where can I find a vintage race kart that I can fix and have fun with on backroads?

Have you already tried searching the craigslist from all of the various towns you'd be willing to drive to for a bargain?
Craigslist doesn't have a dedicated go kart section, so they end up getting posted for sale in serveral different sub-sections... The best way to find them all is to use the craigslist search window, and do individual searches using all the various terms & misspellings that are commonly used for go karts, such as:
Kart
Cart
Racekart
Race kart
Go Kart
Go Cart
Gokart
Gocart
Sprint Kart
LTO Kart
Oval Kart
Shifter Kart
Lots of guys that race karts check the craigslist ads daily for parts, and It's pretty common for them to still own one or more of their older racekarts, or know someone that does. So posting your own 'Wanted ad' will many times trigger someone to respond and sell you theirs... If you post wanted ads, be sure to include all those different go kart terms (as keywords) at the bottom of your post, so others will more easily find your ad.
______________
If you live near any kart race tracks, you could buy a pit pass and ask all the drivers/crew-members if they know of any older race karts for sale. There's also a good chance that some of the folks watching the races from the bleachers would know of some that might be for sale...
Most kart tracks have websites with a classified section. You could check those out, and even post your own wanted ads there.

Most of those sites have email or ph#'s to contact track officials. Contacting all those guys would be another very good way to find a deal on an older racekart....
Good luck![]()
