Everyone uses Google to tell them when to turn, dadgum cars have collision avoidance and practically drive themselves.....

How about some automatic turn signals (especially when using GPS navigation) for all these stupid lazy people that don't have the common courtesy to flip a little lever????

EDIT: And ohhhh....those people that hit the brakes crank the wheel and THEN put on the signal.....yeah....nice!!!! I pretty much figured that's what you were gonna do since you're halfway through doing it.....IDIOTS!

There are bicycle handlebars that blink and/or vibrate..
not for others, but as a navigation signal for the driver (GPS )

The disadvantage of the proposed system will be..
NO ONE will ever use a turn signal ever again in the near future!

and here's why:

Say you are well capable of using that convenient placed lever, and do so on a regular basis...

Now your fancy new GPS provides turn signals, and you f* love it..
even easier that way, right?
So you happily let the automata signalica do all the work for you when ever you're using the GPS system.

Say you're going a for a trip to California this winter.. or since this is you.. Las Vegas!
So you start up your GPS, and drive a few thousand miles;
the first day you're back home you turn off your GPS (why use it.. it's your home town, right )
And you turned off your habbit of using that tiny lever a few days ago already...

Okay, you remember that inconvenient habbit a few days later and everything's good (YOU THINK!!)..
until your next trip to unseen territiry with the GPS on...

the more you use it, the less likely it'll be you signal fellow road users where you'll be going.

Simply because the human body and mind is as lazy as it can be;
if there is a more convenient or "easier" way to "solve a problem"
that's what'll stick best to gray matter.
And.. since that fancy GPS is doing something for you..
you'll also get a reward (dopamine) when you use it;
thus it'll stick even better to NOT lever the heII out of those tiny yellow lights of yours.

A few months down the road, you can as well remove that lever completely.

Remember the days when everyone was able to do simple math in their heads?
then came the seventies and suddenly 20 times 50 needs a calculator.
Or when every car owner had a fair idea of reading a map?
Well, ask a twenty year old to go from White Settlement to Dallas; and see them asking google for directions!

I mean, you could never spot that turn signal sitting behind that in your ordinary rush hour,

I've often said that if the general public had to the same written and driving test's as I did to get my CDL, I'd have the road's to myself for at least a couple of month's, because most of them wouldn't be able to pass it, at least on the first try.....

I have a big problem with automated systems like "self parking", "traction control" & what some call "city braking" (you know, the system that applies the brake when the car senses you're too close to something); like the proposed system here, these systems make drivers even lazier...

Ok, there are systems like ABS & SRS (airbags) which cost a lot BUT they are primarily & secondarily SAFETY SYSTEMS... PERIOD! they exist only to save lives; all these other systems are to make the drivers life easier &, therefore, make the drivers lazier, they are developed for those who simply can't drive...

My opinions:
- Accidents don't happen, people mess up; whether it be because they're doing something stupid or simply not paying attention to what they're doing, any "accident" relates back to human error; whether it's a minor car collision or a plane falling out of the sky & killing hundreds of people, at some point in time before the incident, some human did something wrong...
- Any trained moron can "operate a motor vehicle", heck, even a chimpanzee can operate a motor vehicle but, very few know how to drive, there's a BIG difference...

Like I have always said from the time I started driving, cars should come with manual steering, manual brakes, manual transmission, w/s wipers, turn signals, manual heaters and a/c. Nothing more, it would keep those too feeble to be driving off the roads and therefore make the roads safer. If nothing else they would get their Darwin Award much sooner.

Although I don't disagree with you Denny, for me, driving a car with a manual transmission these days would be a painful experience...

Don't get me wrong, I prefer a manual over auto... & I do consider myself to be a good driver as opposed to an operator...

when I was 19yo, I went to pass a school bus (summer time) where it was legal to do so. When I got to within 10' of the bus, it moved into the left lane without a turn signal. I swerved to the right (left side had a ditch) and side swiped the mail truck that was parked with 2 tires about 1' on the pavement (the bus could have moved over a couple of feet, but the driver had instead moved fully into the oncoming lane) then the bus came back into the right lane an I rear-ended it.

Needless to say, I have never passed a school bus since then and I don't pass cars unless it is nessesary. That said, had the bus driver put on a turn signal at least 50' before it moved into that lane the accident never would have happened.
The officer who came at first gave me attitude, saying "so you tried to pass a school bus" like I was the biggest idiot (which I already felt like that) but then after he spoke to the bus driver and the driver who was behind me he came back and said "I guess you did everything you could to avoid it.

The female driver's excuse was "I didn't see you behind the van"... "Well, if you couldn't see past the van, WHY DID YOU PULL OUT?"

I now always wait until a tuning vehicle ahead of me has turned before proceeding...

I've had some really serious scares in my life.... When it comes to driving, nothing drive's the rear end pucker factor higher than some brainless turning in front of my almost max weight commercial vehicle as if I wasn't even there.... There's been a couple of time's that I thought I was going to have to explain why I needed the seat cushion surgically removed from my .........
