Hello all. This is my first post about my first go kart restoration project. I am restoring a vintage 2 seater and I am struggling with understanding what size wheels and tires to put on. This will primarily be used on the street for fun and will have Predator 212cc engine with a centrifugal clutch. The gear ratio will be a 12 and 60 tooth sprockets. It has 3 inch spindles. I would like the kart to go around 25 MPH. I am not looking to make a huge investment. Can anyone help me out.

Welcome! Here's some stuff what we don't need, but it would greatly help.

1. Pictures! We'd love to see what you're working on.

2. Location? It helps to know what's close to you. If you're lucky, you might be able to find the wheels close to you. If not, you'll most likely have to order them online.

But here's what I can tell you. With your setup, a 13" tire will give you about 27mph.

Here's where to get some cheap rims for you kart.

Here's where you can maybe find a wheel/tire combo, or just the tire alone.

For the gear ratio that you want to run (60/12 = 5:1), you are going to need small tyres. 13" is probably the tallest you can go. I would NOT look for anything taller than that. Your gear ratio is already high, and taller tyres will fry your clutch and you won't be moving at all.

If you can, I would try get a smaller tooth count on the clutch or a larger on the axle. I think you should be OK though with 13" tyres

I just ordered wheels and tires today for my Crossfire 150.

I spent a BUNCH of time on this. I wanted the parts to fit when they got here. Also I wanted a improved appearance.

Measure, measure and measure some more.

He is what I came up with.

1st the bolt circle on the fronts are 4/110

on the Rear they are 4/137 bolt circle. Yes a harder one to find.

So then I wanted this style wheel.

But in order to get the sizes I wanted and the bolt circle that would fit the Kart I had to get them from 2 different manufactures....But the place I ordered all this stuff from had it all.

http://4wheelonline.com/atv/ATV-Wheels.103560

Rear wheels are ITP A-6 Pro 10 X 8 3 +5 -4/137
Rear tires are Sedona 23 X10-10 6ply

Front Wheels DWT A5 8X6 2+4 4/110
Front Tires Kinda K300 20X7-8 Dominator

I didn't even know a 4/137 wheel was made in a decent looking wheel, until I called and talked to them.

Yep...... I spent some $ over $500 for wheels and tires.

More then I paid for the Kart. LOL

On the subject of wheels. 2 things have to qualify for me. It has to be Bright and it has to be easy to clean.

This "Murder" look fad.... I don't know who came up with that. But it does Nothing to make a vehicle stand out. Heck you may as well put a stock wheel on it and break out the spray can of Black.

Mostly I'm speaking of auto's and trucks here , but it transfers to our buggies as well. :)
