Wheel Alignment

Speaking as front to back, what are the pros and cons to not having the back and front wheels the same width?

Tracking issues?

Steering issues?

Turning Issues?

I have seen some of the off road buggies with wider front ends than rear but they are running mostly live axles.

Guess I am just wondering how extremely important this is.

One of the guys made a kart with about a 18-20" rear axle, and that thing was
un-drive-a-ble.
I had a kart that I moved the rears an inch or 2 inboard and it was a touch better handling-wise, but that kart had no front steering geometry.
