Local is trying to sell a home made kart.... what do you think - reasonable price or not? What would be fair? For comparison, I've got a line on a used single seat yard kart with a new 6.5hp (chinese) motor for $5-600. I'm sure this one isn't as pretty as the pic shows, considering he says it's since been stretched and surely been ridden hard by the kids.

I hope those aren't harbor freight wheels, particularly they look like it in front.

Probably $200-300 max, maybe $400 max if it has a torque converter.

I think HF wheels are a bit different looking.

$1000 sounds like way too much tome....

Indeed.

Maybe head on down to th crusher an look around for it... although, I find it hard to believe it would be scrapped...

no way has he put $2800 into that. Even buying everything new.
Maybe $1000 out into it, but he cant expect it back.
Also the seat looks way to upright???

I figured it was way overpriced... there's nowhere near $1k of steel in that and I'm sure the other parts won't drastically raise the price either. Last week, he said he wanted $500 for the engine alone (I'd offered him $500 for the kart). Last night, he emails me and says he'll take not one penny less than $800, which is still too much IMO. Feel like going to see it tomorrow night with $400 and let him stew over that. I suppose a couple helmets are worth something if not damaged.

The seat does look pretty upright (uptight? LOL), doesn't it?

Tell him you can get a brand new gx200 for under $500. Or a clone for $100

That seat looks uncomfortable it's to vertical so that has to be modified, maybe even the roll bar.

Looks like the timing won't work out anyway, the time he said he's available is not what he wrote last night. Last note he wrote "Oh well, crusher it is then.". Whole thing looks like a big chain yank. Go ahead big guy, send it to the scrapper. I'll look for the new listing on kijiji in a couple days. lol

Why would someone that wants $800 for a kart scrap it? He would only get $30 from them if he's lucky... Seems like he just said that to push for a quick sale.

Some people are just like that, I know of a guy who's entire family is like that - would beat up all usable parts on a car before taking it to the scrapyard just so the fellow can't salvage anything for himself or resale. Spiteful. It might be nicely assembled and welded and sport some shiny red paint, but it obviously has little market value beyond a pipe dream.
