Didn't do any welding over the weekend, but had to do a "Hall of Shame" run at work today. Basically, for anyone who doesn't live, eat and breath G-code programming for CNC machines, I missed
1 decimal place programming a tapping cycle on the mill I run concerning just how far the tap precesses down the hole with each revolution of the spindle. Basically, I turned a tap into a drill bit, and in less time than it took to type this, I generated 8 smooth bore holes.
The time required to fix this problem came to 4 1/2 hours, of which ~2 1/2 was the effort it took to weld the plugs into place so that when i ground/ sanded/ polished every thing off, you wouldn't be able to tell it had been welded at all. This part will not be painted, only black oxide coated, so any imperfections would be there for all the world to see.
And yes, the boss was not happy.
[color[RED] EDIT] temp. at work while doing all that was in the mid 90's F. with about 75~80 % humidity.....
