I have a carter go kart that is similar to a yerf dog. I bought it with a gx 160 that ran but was missing throttle likage, clutch, chain, sprokets and had an aftermarket 1" jackshaft. The previous owner put that motor on it from a compressor but did not finish the build.

I gave it a pred. 212 minus govenor and low oil, chinese mikuni carb 22mm w/125 main jet and off brand 30 series CVT. Gearing from CVT 10t <chain> JS 15t-15t <chain> 60t on drive, so 6:1 on live axle with 16" wheels.

It was pretty quick and ran about 20 mph. I put the chikuni on, tuned it in, and now it runs about 30 mph with better acceleration and throttle response.

What else can I do safely before I have to get a billet flywheel? I was thinking at least a header and 18 lbs valve springs. I do plan on getting a billet FW and other upgrades like connecting rod but, those parts start getting a bit more expensive.

Is spark plug indexing worth the time? Is it safe to cut off every other blade on the fan behind the recoil starter? Is it difficult to advance timing by filling the timing key? Is it worth it/difficult to port, polish and shave the head? Is 18 lbs valve springs appropriate or get bigger for room to grow? What order should I change other parts ie. crank and cam shaft, piston, valves, and head cylinders? I know how to turn a wrench but I'm learning how to work on/upgrade these engines.

I read I can put a gx 160 head on a gx 200 and gain HP from more compression. Does this work? Are my motors compatible? Is it a bolt on deal or do I have to mix and match parts? What else should I do before I can safely install this? I assume I should port, polish and shave the head first? Is it worth messing with? I have never done a port and polish but I know how to polish metal and have experience using a dremel.

Also, It has completely worn down band brakes. Should I just get a new band or upgrade to mechanical or hydro disc brakes. I think it would be cool to have a hand brake aswell for drifting but that may be overkill.

This is just a hobby my young kids and I play with in the yard so its not really holding high rpm for long periods of time. It just happens to be more fun the faster it goes. Sorry about poor grammer and spelling... I did try to make it easy to read. Any other opinions and advice are welcome I like to learn.
