What type of go kart should I get

Hey, Im new to go karts and I am wondering what go kart is the best for me to get. I have a budget that is like $0 to maybe like $1200. I don't want some begginer go kart. I want a 2 seater and maybe one thats like 195cc's.

Do you want to get into professionally racing karts (probably not if you're wanting a 2-seater)? Or do you just want a toy that will go way fast?

Do you know what kind of speed you're looking for?

So, yeah, go with Bajagokart's style of kart. I don't know any brand names of Kart manufacturers (well, I know some race frame manufacturers). All I'd suggest is go briggs. But I can't honestly knock on any other engine manufacturer.

no i just want it to drive around but i want a good one that wont break or need to get fixed every 5 seconds.

um fast? i dont really konw the standards for speed on a go kart. like i said im new to this.lol

Well. some street karts with bike engines can go well over 140mph. You won't get that off any store's shelf.

With a normal kart, you may see speeds up to about 30-40mph no problem. But that 100% depends on which kart you buy, the engine, its drive system, overall weight, and people weight.

If you wanna carry two people, I would go with at least 8hp

you'll find that the majority of people on this site either make their own karts or buy used frames, and customize. very few buy new karts, and quite frankly buying a brand new kart for the most part is going to be a rip off.

If i were you i would look on craigslist, look for something used but in good shape, make sure it has a torque converter rather than a centrifugal clutch. I wouldnt pay as much attention to brand, i would look at what type of engine and clutch it has.

i have a 2009 baja reaction 150cc btw lol i have since mounted a 13 hp clone on it cause when i bought it the engine was shot :S lol when i get my torque converter rigged i have it geared to do about 40 mph im gunna say, these karts have electric start and they do about 35 mph from the factory, they are relatively cheap and they are really nice units!, im very pleased with mine!

and i agree with kaptain here on this one, i got my machine for 600 canadain because the guy i bought it from didnt have the time or the money for someone to fix it, he decided to cut his losses and sell it dirt cheap. for the condition my machine was in when i got it it was still worth at least 1000 or easily more! i dont recommend buying these baja's brand new cause for what you get and how much they are (150cc = $2500 here in canada) its kinda a rip off. they are good quality but you are almost better designing your own go kart

Ok I have thought it over and have decided to build a go kart from scratch. What are the parts that I will need to get to build one?

first off do you have a welder, grinder, metric or imperal wrench set, + other basic tools?

You will also need a handle drill (drill press would be better), a chop saw isnt needed but it makes everything easier, your also going to want some door clamps, maybe a few c clamps and a vice grip or two.

If you need to ask this question, you definitely need to buy a good set of plans. The Edge has some good plans (link in a post above), and the member theo on this site sells some awesome plans on ebay.
