I just picked this up on Clist a couple days ago. Can someone help identify what sort of clutch this is?

The seller didn't know anything about it and told me it'd been sitting for more than a few years. It has a 3hp briggs that seems to run okay. I had to prop the rear end up to get it started since the output shaft spins with the engine...is that normal or is the clutch bad?

Thanks!!

By the looks of the first pic .......IIRMC that sure looks like the drive system off of either a garden tiller or a walk behind tractor, they did not have a chain drive they used a belt with a over center idler pulley to engage the drive after starting and the motor could very well be from the same place....... just my two cents

it's a 6:1 gear reduction.. NO CLUTCH! that's why the output shaft always spins.

And frankly the seller KNEW that!
That's why he told you he didn't, you cannot install a clutch to that,
if it's a removeable red-kit (like the newer one is) you need to get rd of it, then install a clutch (if the shaft's not splined which it likely is...)
frankly I guess you need to buy a different engine to make use of the kart.

Sorry :(

ps here's a newer Briggs with a similar 6:1 red kit:
