Look hard at the frame. Flip it over. Look at the bottom. Especially at the bends and butt welds. Rust will form there.
Look for cracks or breaks.
A solid frame is a must.
What else. Functional steering? Brakes all there? Other linkage?
Tires and bearing are a known to be replaced so don't worry too much about those. Does it have all 4 wheels?
As close as a rolling frame as you can get.

Wow, 80 bucks and some free leaves. Looks like a heavily Bubba-fied Manco-something.

My bare minimum is a functional roller like WTR said, with all his conditions met: 4 wheels/4 tires (any condition or at least good enough to tell what the tire size was), steering wheel and I usually require a seat if it is separate from the frame. There's rarely a seat cushion involved (vinyl and foam) which is okay and something I can to live with. One of these days I'm going to learn upholstery....

If you know you can replace a missing steering wheel, for example, with something readily available (a drop-in piece) then you can plan around it, but the whole idea is to save money. I really don't want to be on the hunt for a Manco or Kelch wheel like what was on your Brister's.

Search day and night, daily, hourly and by the minute constantly refreshing and rewording your search with:

gokart
go kart
go-kart
gocart
go cart
go-cart
Predator (they make go karts you know)
Briggs
Tecumseh
...and other key words...

Persistence pays off. People won't often know what they're selling but they will list the engine make which is usually unmistakable (written right on it, indelibly).

Where are you going to be using the kart. For example, all my activity is off road out in the desert. I won't even look at a kart that doesn't have suspension. Too hard on the back side. If it's for the street or asphalt, then that's a different story.
If it's for kids, I like the roll cages ( ok bush guards ) and belts to keep them in the kart.

Pancho is right.

Isn't the next kart supposed to be your kart? Or are you just hankering for something to fix and flip?
Just looking for project. Whatever I can get best deal on and still work on with my limited skills. Probably do it for my 30 yr old son. You should have have seen him smiling when he test drove the black hawk. Way to big for it. Will be for off road so suspension Probably important. So far everything on fb is priced too high or junk
