Me and my girl have gotten into fights befor and every time she says that I should just leave so she can get daycare assistance, its a sad world when people chose to or dictate there choices based on how much state help they can get or lose.

Few people, no matter how conservative, want to ignore those who can't do for themselves. Unfortunately our society fails to recognize the difference between can't and won't. In America if you don't you get help.

We're several generations beyond the point where people aren't too proud to take a handout - in fact, we're to the point where they demand it. You can't blame a spoiled child for his behavior, he's only doing what comes naturally. The parent in this analogy is our government, and the more they offer the more people like it. You really can't blame the politicians either, they're only giving us what we want.

People will become self-reliant when they have to - as is the case in China (and most of the remainder of the world).
