What size nut is this?

First of all, I want to say :

THANK YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!

I'm serious. I came here looking for answers to my go kart problems a while back, and the good folks here helped me out. They suggested putting a CVT on my go kart, and it has been nothing but grins from ear to ear once I got it figured out, mounted, and the teeth just right.

Well, I have been having just a little TOO much fun unfortunately. I noticed it was taking off slower, taking a little bit to " grab " so to say, so I stopped riding and inspected it. My belt is frayed and coming apart ( I have a new one on order ! ) . But my main concern is the nut holding the driven on. It's missing!

Any clue what size nut this is? Threads, etc? Here is a picture of it.

That's odd, in the pic, it has a nylock nut. Not that they won't ever fail to hold, but for this application they should just be fine.
I'm going to suggest blue locktite aswell, just to make sure that sucker holds on for good.

agreed, 5/8" fine thread, takes a 15/16" wrench or socket to tighten, my local Ace sells nylon jam nuts of this size which have a lower profile, good when you find yourself running out of room at the end of that jackshaft

And if you failed to tighten that nut when you got the TAV, it probable spun off, just go to Ace and get the jam nut, you'll see the nylon engage the threads and will be more confident in your build. This is probably why the belt got chewed up, if the driven unit floated back and forth on the jackshaft that would've caused strain on the belt.

Might not be the same as a genuine comet tav-2...
I wouldn't be surprised if a clone like that substituted a metric nut.

If you don't have a measuring caliper to accurately determan the outer-diameter of the threaded section, you could substitute using various metric and sae open end wrenches instead, like the pic below illustrates. Then also count how many threads per inch, and bring that info along to a good hardware store like Ace to buy the correct nut and washer.

And you definitely want to be careful about jamming nuts.....

Someone will get this.....everyone else....well....you know I'm just silly...

I've taken parts (your torque shaft? mount?) down to the hardware store and just matched it up with the correct bolt, to find the corresponding nut...sometimes I get funny looks.

and never have this issue again.
