What Size Hydraulic Brake for this Kart?

This kart needs more stopping power than the mechanical caliper brake that's currently installed (and pictured below) can supply.

I'm wondering what size caliper and disc I should consider ordering? The engine is an 18HP Briggs - and it's got a decent amount of weight and speed that goes along with it.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

Well, I do not know what size you need but I'd assume any caliper off of a quad or bike would work. And to clarify, you have a mechanical caliper, not a mechanical hydraulic.

I had to reread it and look at the pictures to make sure I wasn't going nuts.

Strat- I'm not sure that mini-bike brakes are particularly potent, but I'm quite sure anything you can source from a motorcycle would be fine. A unit from a car would work out well, too.

That brake looks like an Airheart and it should work very well on that cart.

The existing mechanical brake is fairly new - so the pad is still there. Stopping power is mediocre at best - more like a rolling stop. I've adjusted it several times and re-done the cable twice. This kart is a fairly heavy beast with that 18hp on the back.

I also took the governor off that Briggs this weekend - so the last thing I want to do is undersize it's stopping power.

Go to a local scrapper and see if you can pull something from a quad or dirtbike. Try to grab the whole unit, the master cylinder, caliper, and rotor with mounting stuff. That way it can be a simple swap in.
