ya ok i get that this engine might be a pain in the but to get it to go fast ,,,, but am not looking to go fast ,,,am looking to push snow out of my way,and to pull a wagon(GARDNING CART) ,around the yard,,,,,,,am new to this cart building so i dont whant to build a monster as my first project, just a little something to help me with the snow,,,,, now that being said ,if the pros say 'that the engine is not good for the job, then its not good for the job' am looking to go as fast as i can walk,,, no faster

... Then I see no problem. If it runs, use it. If the reduction case has a clutch built in, then great. If not, you'll have to use a tensioner system. You'll have to do a revolutions count or find a manual to determine the reduction ratio, then use pulley sizes to reduce further. For walking speed, you'll need a pretty steep ratio, depending on tire size, somewhere on the order of 15 or 20:1, maybe deeper.

if you turn the engine over by pulling the starter rope, does the output shaft spin. If it does then you'll have to use a belt tensioner system.

Cooooool, internal spur gear reduction box! Slideways was right, it's a 6:1 reduction box so it will be slooooowww, but very torquey! I don't see anything wrong with that axle either, except that it may be tough to adapt a v-belt pulley in place of the sprocket.

The differential will cause you to lose a lot of traction. It will allow very nice steering, but it WILL suck in the snow and loose dirt.

Seeing as you're going to have to use a belt tensioner system for clutching, you've got to figure out all your ratios properly, ahead of time. I suspect that axle sprocket will not be large enough for the kind of "walking speed" reduction you're after. Having set up a belt primary, you could have a chain secondary, but again, a larger sprocket. So basically, I think you're best to replace the whole axle. Option "B" is weld up the spider gears in the diff, and fins a way to fit a larger sprocket.

What is the diameter of those tires, and how many teeth are on that axle sprocket?

It looks like the tire on the right in the picture has a broken belt...

The axle looks as if its from an old john deere 57 rear engine rider with a different sprocket/drum on it.

ok, so here is an update ....i ve decide to change the project ,that engine needs a new carb, its leaking fuel like crazy ,and its going to be slow,as you guys said,..and i no after its built am going to want to go faster,,so instead of spending money on a carb, and pulleys, ,i should spend it on an engine,so to keep me active on the cart,i kind of started on the frame,,,,, i kno am going to change the width of it ,so this is just to give me ideals of where am going with it ,,,,,,,, here are a few picks of what i got so far,,, :D :devil2:

ok so after being away from this forum for a while,,and playing around with the cart build,,,, i have decided to change my project,,,, am taking the easy way out,, after getting my mower clean up ,and looking for parts for it,i notice that the parts are very hard to come by,the plan is build a roll cage around the engine ,put a long seat on it,and fabricate a removable plow so here is the question,,, where could i find a bigger sprocket for the transmission, and is it grease or oil in that transmission ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, :auto:
