I removed the governod today and i want to put a straight pipe to make it sound louder and look cooler. Well i also want to drill out the jet. If i do one of those 2 only will i have to do the other. In other words do i have to do both or can i just do one.

Ok, you have a Predator 212. Do everything; drill the jet and add a pipe. Go all out.

What about the intake?

If you want more power, you need to burn more fuel. If you want to burn more fuel, you need more air.

Sooooooo.......

To make more power... we need more fuel and more air.


FIRST THE AIR.....

Comes though the Filter, the carb, into the cylinder, gets compressed, burned, and pushed out the exhaust.

A less Restrictive Filter will let more air in. A less Restrictive Exhaust will let more out.

Need both!


NOW THE FUEL.....

So oxidation (combustion) is fuel plus Oxygen. More air is more oxygen. More oxygen needs more fuel. A less Restrictive Air Filter and Exhaust will allow more air to get pumped through the "Air Pump", but more air needs more fuel.

This means a bigger fuel jet is needed.

SO YOU NEED ALL THREE!!!!

The Intake, The Exhaust, The Carb Jets.

No, you do not need all three!

you can add a straight pipe without modding the intake or jets without any problems.
it won't do anything beneficail to the engine but if that's okay for you for the look and sound..
it's still perfectly fine.
But that's the only other option.

If you mod the INTAKE you'll have more air and thus need more fuel (drilling jet) and since you have a higher throughput you need a less restrictive exhaust as well.

If you drill the jet you have too much fuel in the equation and need to get more air in.. your back at the above.

Ditching the stock exhaust/muffler and adding a straight pipe is probably the number one mod (in terms of effectiveness) you can do to the engine. Simple--just bolts on.

Do you guys know of any good but cheap air filters. I have a tecumseh air filter on my Predator. Also how long should the straight pipe be and what size drill do you guys recommend for the jet

I look for low cost always because the Predator is inexpensive.

Here's a header pipe on fleabay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/351627268210?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT It will be noisy and at this time I don't know what small muffler or resonator will fit it.

You need a special air filter adapter to take the cone "racing" filters. It's often a piece of billet aluminum shaped like a donut basically. The filters are nicer than the factory/OEM because they're reusable--you wash it when it gets dirty. There's tons of those available.

The inlet usually measures 2 7/16" ID.

I got one for $7.95 from BMI for example.
