I have an old weedwhacker engine, too. I am going to turn it into a small generator so i can saw stuff and charge things wherever I want.
You just get an old car alternator, connect it to the alternator via sprocket/chain, and then that to a DC/AC transformer. (if the DC/AC tranformers cost too much, you can just take out the transistors from the alternator)

But there you go, a 1200v personal generator. Usable for a saw, leaf blower, etc when not near an outlet.

I did a double take when I saw the title of the thread on the home page because it cut "eater motor?" off. Anyways, I would definitely be interested in what ideas people come up with because I have a weed eater engine just siting there waiting for a home.

who wants to start up a noisey smelly weed eater in the middle of there house?(i could see the purpose of putting it in a garage though...)

Hey now. Noisy yes. Smelly? Depends on the oil. I run Klotz super techniplate in all my stuff. 80% synthetic 20% castor oil. The castor oil has a smell like no other. Regular 2 stroke oil straight up stinks to me. Klotz Benol' is 100% castor oil but it's gummy stuff. Will cause you engine trouble in a recreational application. Lots of hillclimb bikes run it. If you think 2 stroke stinks try Klotz techniplate. Your opinion may change. The smell is an attention getter to. As soon as people smell it there trying to figure out what that awesome smell is. Good stuff. I catch myself filling the garage with smoke just to enjoy the smell.
