what scores a cylinder?

Hey Freak,

Explain this cam welding to me. Won't the heat take the temper out of the lobes? Do you reharden it?

How much higher does the lift need to be?

i dont belive cams are tempered and you would want more lift but not so much you hit the valves on the heads i would try .5cm more. (i cant do decimals with standard stuff) it should help out a bit u could either weld it on the end for more lift. or on the sides for more duration. u also have to make sure you wont be hitting your crank shaft. not sure if thats a problem but i heard on heymow it was. i would probaly go for more duration. also depending on what kinda push rods you have you dont really need to weld and grind the whole cam lobe cause some u can have just a bead in the middle.

screw didnt help at all. i tore the flywheel cup off and used it on another engine with the pull starter. So im gonna mod up this engine this week and maybe swap parts back over.

So here are my questions
If i weld the connecting rod up will it hold up longer? What about the dipper?
Im gonna weld the exhaust lifter area
now i know im gonna get valve float, what can i do to prevent this? I cant afford springs.

Seriously man, just trash it then get a new one when it dies. Theres no point in buying new springs n crap for these things, theres so many engines around so just whack a new one on when it craps itself.

Im pretty sure welding the rod n stuff will do nothing and is probably worse as it throws the balance of the rod out. Dont touch em ay, there good how they are, just leave em!

I agree, briggs engines are dime a dozen, if you break one thier cheap and easy to replace.

yeah, seems like its more trouble than its worth for a modern Briggs.
of course i have a few older ones that refuse to die, they might be worth fixing w/e they need it. (old-school Briggs engines rule! lol)

ok well then m going to do some machine work tomorrow. Imeasured the carb again last night and my briggs intake and the carb is just barely larger so i think i can make an adapter that will work
