Heres a link to the muffler I run: http://cometkartsales.com/store/p&h/rlvbrigg.htm (I use the 4106 model)
Most all 4 stroke race kart tracks require this type of RLV WKA muffler used. I did some research and many race kart engine builders claim they actualy get higher HP/torque dyno readings with this muffler than running open. There not dead quiet but they definitely lower the volume a good bit but still sound good.

They reduce noise with the stepped design and a series of 3 screens inside. There not made to take apart, but I heard sometimes racers attempt to cheat by inserting a long sheet metal screw into its intake end, and then threading into its 1st screen to pull it out. Some race tracks tech inspectors actualy check to confirm all 3 screens are still in place, but if you wanted you could remove one or even 2 screens if you found it too quiet for your tastes.

If you want to get super quiet, they make a special 4-stroke race muffler required for many Canadian kart tracks. (Part# RLV 4110) You'll find one on this page: http://www.out2win.com/catalog/exhaust_ohv.html
