what motor?

hello every one. im building a shifter kart and ive already prepped a ar4 birel frame to hold a pit bike engine but i dont know what type of motor to go with. im thinking of a 160cc yx 4valve. Or somthing thats electric start and will take me to 120 km or more?

any thing around or over a 250 should be fine, heck a 6.5hp would take you to 120km/h but it would be a slow ride there. You need to decide how fast you truly want to go and just how fast you want to get there.

I plan on hitting 120-130 on the lake during the winter in my micro buggy, so 120 for racing is no where out outrageous. Now if this is just a road kart then this is major overkill.

That what I was thinking... Hwy speed is 100 km/h and you need a road legal car for that. Have fun building!

i have 3 karts running on hondas and i want this kart to be insane ive already done crazy amounts of custom stuff to this birel frame. and this is a kart that i want to take to the track every week or so. since i posted this thread ive been looking at 125 yz motors and might role with one of those. and for speed i want to hit 130km and i want to lay two big patches on the ground behind me

If you want that then you need a 250 or higher to really lay down the rubber, just look at any of the bike engine powered karts around here, they all have 500's or 750's putting out around 100hp while a 250 will put out just under 40 and a 125 might make 20 which would make it comparable to the average commercial shifter kart.

thanks alot every one. i think im just ganna stick my original plan which is a pit bike motor 150cc bored out to a 180cc or a 160cc race engine cause my karts already set up for it
