I'm going to guess 5HP flat head Tec. See those numbers stamped into the top of that recoil cover? Google it. That will be a definite answer.

It looks striking similar to a 4hp Tecumseh I have in my garage that needs to be rebuilt.

Go easy on him, he doesn't know much otherwise he'd know straight off it was a Tecumseh just by looking at it.
In that series if my memory serves they made a 3.5/4/5 horse in that style.

Yeah If I could see the #'s stamped on the top of the cover, I'n know for sure.
I'm betting on a 4hp, I believe the 5hp had a screw in muffler and not a bolt on.
Ether way they were strong engines, and well worth rebuilding.

When Google-ing that, it doesn't come back with anything. Make sure you got them just right. I had trouble getting mine ID'd because I mis-read a number.

Make sure that serial number is exactly right. I looked at my small engine repair manual and its a craftsman serial number but none of then exactly matched. Reread then carefully and fix the mistake ill ill cross-refrance it to Tecumseh numbers and I can tell what it is!

It's a 4hp.. how do I know see the last 3 digits of the model 042 that means it is a 4hp if it were 052 then it would be a 5hp if it were 035 it would be a 3.5hp

I know for a fact it's a 4hp its the same model as the one I have that I've had since I was a kid that came on a gocart that my parents bought me from sears in the late 70's early 80's
