I bought a couple of engines with these things on them and I removed them...but what are they and are they worth anything?

gear reduction trannys... try to figure out the gear ratio in it.

After much searching of the nets I found it listed in a parts book and it's 2:1 gear reduction...its also a clutch...engages 1800 rpm and locks at 2300, its worth $225, prolly going to sell them for $100

I've ran across some of those gear reduction/clutch boxes that were a 6 to 1 ratio.

if it has a clutch then id just keep it on the engine

yea, and then run a sprocket straight to the PTO on it.
