SO I had to take apart the rear axle and move the engine when I put the torque converter on. The sprocket hub has this piece in the middle that is broken and I'm not sure what its called to find a new one. The last owner jerry rigged it. Any help would be good. Also what type of bearing is this and where is the best place to order them. The axle is 1"

Thanks

I agree with Russ.

That looks to be one of the older (floating-type) sprocket hub designs some guys use on racekarts. I cant tell what brand it is, but if you can track that part down, you'd prolly find it'd cost more than some of the newer/complete solid hubs available nowadays.

looks like a taper lock... well.. it IS a taper lock...

The only taper lock sprocket hub I know is the "Mark IV Vari-Hub"
But I'm unsure if you can buy just the taper lock as a spare, and if so if it matches your BHC *shrugs*

bearing can be found at any kart shop I assume, just make sure you have the dimensions handy when ordering ;)

[EDIT]
so the mark iv taper is available...

if it fits... IDK!

Thanks guys, ive found somethings very similar and it does seem to be cheaper to buy a new solid hub. also was thinking of a 1pc sprocket and hub assembly since I want to get a bigger sprocket. Any thoughts on those?

I would still go with a two piece. You can find them cheap at BMI karts, or Ebay etc. relatively universal not like what you have and it gives you flexibility and options for the future. Just my opinion.

Workin the Taperlock

Hi everybody.

Helpful thread.
My son has a Manco and wants to replace his centrifugal clutch with a Comet torque converter. He read that in order for it to work, he'd need to be able to slide the axle sprocket an inch or two toward the engine so that it aligns with the new sprocket. The axle sprocket is held on with this same Mark IV Vari-Hub.

To slide it over, is it just a matter of loosening the four inner bolts to disengage the "taperlock"?

Thanques much!

remove the bolts and it should be 2 more threaded holes you put 2 of the bolts in to help break it loose.
