346cc predator engine, hose that goes from air filter to OHV its a larger hose big around as my thumb? What do I do with this when I upgrade my air filter?

Well, you're both correct... & you're both wrong:

It's a crankcase vent & it's there to equalise crankcase pressure; it's connected to the air filter box so that any fumes don't escape into the atmosphere.

You can either buy a spacer that has a hose barb on it which goes onto the carb before the new air filter adaptor, then the hose connects to it, or simply connect a fuel filter to the end...

Cam, it's not necessarily gases escaping past the rings, it's more the movement of the piston, which creates vacuum & pressure, depending on the stroke; the crankcase vent allows the engine to move more freely...

Paul, there is a microfilter in the rocker cover which is supposed to trap any oil; if oil is coming out the crankcase breather/vent hose, either the engine has too much oil or the filter is full/dirty...

Hey, I didn't say you were completely wrong; on an older engine, there will bet lots of gases escaping past the worn out rings, not so much on a newer engine so, in that aspect, you are correct (which is what I said) but, that's not the only purpose of a breather...

The games the oil the seeps past the rings goes out the exhaust
it's just to keep crank case pressure at atmosphere

If u have combustion gas in the pcv then your valve seals are junk

It is a good idea to run it to a catch can or filter
if it's a yard kart then just run a filter

If it's a track kart then check the regs

I say this As having just a filter will mean a tiny amount of oil will leak out
not enough to be concerned about
But dumping oil on a track is oobviously a bad thing

It's also illegal to dump crank case breather to atmosphere on a car
But I don't know about off road rules in your area

Not that they would know what u have done

Fabroman got it on The Dot. The recip piston creates fluctuations of pressure and the breather is meant to relieve it however due to epa ect oil was orig spraying out in a mist/droplets hence going to the intake to burn and oil escaping not necessarily. Fumes just call it a simple pcv setup similar idea as on a car. I just. Do like a lot of the older cars catch cans can be a bit expensive or in the way if you can find a one way valve and attach a small "filter" on the end it works fine older cars just had a "breather cover"

if at first you dont succeed get a bigger hammer....

Even with that "filter" job they have on the ohv covers oil passes and with calif emissions and epa even a slight drop makes them faint. There is a small amount of. Fumes mainly exhuast. "Blow by" gasses even on new engines a small amount of exhaust passes the gaps in the rings no matter what its not flawless and this also adds to the mess.
