I just bought an engine for my buggy.
And it doesn't say how big the shaft is.
I tried measuring how big it is by using a dial caliper, but it says it it 9/10 of an inch.
I'm trying to put a clutch on the crankshaft, but they only come in sized 5/8 3/4 and 1 inch.

What clutch size should I use?

Thanks.

Measure the shaft using you dial caliper again and tell us the exact measurement you come up with.

remember that if you have an adapter that slips over the shaft, the clutch will need to fit the adapter, not the shaft. if you already have the adapter why measure the crank?

I measured with a inch/mm caliper. And this is what I got:

By measuring on the inch side. It is on the 9 exactly.

Have you tried turning on the micrometer to get EXACT numbers? You can put a key way in it but that's such a strange size.

I know...some folks just need it spelled out. I was not questioning you at all.
I've dealt with close tolerances (4 or more decimal points) all my life.
"About" or "Around" doesn't cut it.
