i thought if the ratio is low number you get more speed
If you are referring to say 4:1 versus 10:1 you would be correct. 'Sid was simply explaining how the term's can get you into trouble if you didn't have any experience with them. We've seen that many time's here, and he was trying to get things straight up front.
Just for grin's, though, let's try this.....
4:1 ratio means that the engine rotates 4 time's to make the axle turn once. This equals speed, but also means gutless unless you have power to burn.
10:1 ratio means that the engine has to rotate 10 times to rotate the axle once. Very slow, but you could almost pull up tree stump's, even with a small engine.
