what is it? photos of engine

I traded a kayak for an old hutless formula c shifter and I can't figure out what engine I have. It sort of looks like a yamaha 100 but with a transmission....sorry camera is with a friend. Head is about 8in square and fins are angled toward the intake side (front) exhaust ..rear.
I am trying to make it a project with some neighbor kids as there's not much going in our very small town.
thanks ...any help and will try for picture

if you can find the displacement stamped on the cylinder or case it would be easier to identify. I'm guessing 70's/80's air cooled motocross bike engine.

Until you can post a pic, you might do a google image search for "vintage motocross" or enduro models. You'll probably run across an engine pic that looks similar enough to at least narrow down the brand. After you know that and the approx era you should be able to google up tons of info/pics to help narrow down your exact model.

AK, no shots right now...it has none of the motorcycle logos on the clutch cap, the carb is on the wrong side for a bike, no disp stamps, no open ends like bike connecting chain or usual bolt holes for bike frame yoke mount......
The kart does have a mount for an air bottle for the shifter....I will have to put on the "want" board. I have long been a fan of nazi stuff; the germans make things well...but this swiss kart is built like a plane..I am impressed and figured the local kids and I would make it run and run around the parking lot or airport....haven't got that far, but it's a VERY small town so we will be looking.
Tks your help

Not exactly, but your clutch side cover/oil fill plug looks pretty simalar to the older Suzuki designs, check out this pic: http://www.jwoodandcompany.com/2007/07_pics/7_77-Suzuki_RM370.JPG

I've heard some 2 strokes can have their cylinder and head instaled backwards... To bad they removed the stator side cover, it might have given us more clues. Does your engine have a kickstart shaft or any evedence of ever having one?

I learned Kawasaki briefly made purpose built shifter race kart engines but I couldnt find any info about Suzuki doing this. (all the Kawasaki vintage MX-engine pics I found looked completly diferent) Maybe you got some sort of prototype or something there. With that air shifter it looks like someone was a prety serious racer. Did the seller have any clues for us?

well idk about the rest of the engine but that carb is way newer than an air cooled mx bike. i don't think they started using the flat slide carb till the 90's

Hey Freakboy, I don't have a beer stein collection; but Octoberfest is a great time. I have had several Porsches...bought, put together, and sold paying for another quarter of school.....had a few bmw motorcycles that like their cars...you fix something and forget not like that 3rd alternator on the dodge truck or that 4th set of brakes on the Tercel....my favorite place is that corner of austria/germany/italy where you get mountain folks sking/beer/cheese/sausage....in a group of hardworking people, proud of making something perfect.

AK- no kick start evidence...in fact I think you started with the drive axle off the ground or the push, chase, and jump aboard method. Moto picture is very close. but looking at the case; it would be an easy mount to your work bench...flat...rather than any side/frame mount at all.
The seller (now my kayak owner) was a remodel contractor that had the home owner say"get my kids kart etc into the dumpster"...he put it in his driveway under a blue tarp...then on craigslist...then me in the mazda pickup...he kept the tarp.

My 84 RM 250 came with a flat slide 38mm carb, I think 82 may have been the first year for them.
Swiss, you may get some answers on here too: 125 Shifter Karts , they have quite a few European and international members,
