What's the story on the left/right swapping of the first pic of blue kart and second pic of rusty kart? Makes that riser stanchion look necessary. Looks like either one could have previously been set up for side-mounted engine for flat-track racing. Homemade-looking mess, or at least home-modified changes.
Too late to think of a resto job, just go ahead and make it your own. Cut off all excess weight, and modify that OEM engine with free-flowing intake/exhaust and a bigger carb jet. Make sure the governor is still in place and working, you need that at least until/if it gets a billet connecting rod. Removing the governor's guts then would be highly recommended or even required.
Any increase in valve spring strength (like from 10.8# to 22#) would then in the absence of a governor require a billet flywheel also.

Help my crossed eyes, maybe I'm seeing things. Looks like the rusty kart has the rear wheels canted over to the right side of the seat, like it would be ??? if set up (motor to right or left side?) for side mount flat track racing, but..................
looks like the front wheels at the same time are centered on the seat. Not picturing how that would steer, whether or not in right or left cornering. Anybody experienced with setups for side mount stuff? Want learn what not know, eyes crossy, hurt brain, Tylenol gone.

Okay so I bought the cart the rusty pictures. I stripped it down and painted it blue. When I took the picture to circle the pylon it somehow flipped the image. So it's the same cart. It looks like it was set up for a side mount and a rear mount. I just wondered what the thing was for I'm cutting it off.

I think that bracket was used for bump starting back when it had a direct drive engine:

I believe that is where you affix your last will and testament prior to beginning your journey. Or maybe this kart was set-up with fairings or body work at one time and that pedestal had something to do with that. Either way, we should be hearing your angle grinder directly.

I instantly thought of that!!! "The Left-handed Gun" movie about Billy the Kid came from a deguerrotype picture of him holding his gun with his left hand. It was figured out later that the image was flipped like on all deguerrotype pictures, he was really right-handed!
Still want to know if rear wheels are actually canted to one side while front wheels are centered. And why that would be built that way.
