I got this with my new kart project. It has no identification on it that I can see. Is it a 5hp or 6.5hp? The guy couldn't remember. It looks about the same as my other 6.5 clone. Maybe the color is different for different horsepowers???

Look under the gas tank at the block, those will be your casting marks to tell you what size it is on a Honda. Alternately I assume the Chinese will mark theirs similarly.

Under the tank, or somewhere on the crankcase casting should state the CC's.
Looks like the caroll stream 6.5HP clone to me, just a guess.

If you can't find markings you could take off the head to measure bore and stroke.
Alternatively you could put it up against your 6.5hp for size. If I am correct, the 5.5 is a 6.5 with a decked block and shorter stroke crank, e.g. the 5.5hp has less stroke than the 6.5 (along with some other small differences). If the cylinder seems the same it is probably a 6.5hp. If it is shorter it is probably a 5.5 or 5hp.

According to my Honda manual

Model------------Bore----------------Stroke

GX160-----------68mm----------------45mm
Gx200-----------68mm----------------54mm

My manual does not list compression ratio information, which would reveal whether the gx160 is "decked".

looks similar to an older honda gx120 that we used to run in our 1/4 midgets as a kid.

I dont mean that the stroke os the only difference with the 160. It also has a different head (14cc old model, 18cc new model vs 22cc clone) and I think the 160's have a flat top piston as stock. Some of them anyway.

The 160 has a 9.0:1 compression ratio and the 200 has a 8.5:1 ratio according to the honda website.
